Heavy to light rain swept through various areas of Karachi on Friday, bringing much-needed relief after several days of scorching temperatures. The recent heatwave had caused considerable discomfort, leading to two reported deaths due to heatstroke.
The downpour affected numerous localities, including Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Surjani, North Karachi, New Karachi, Malir, Cantt, Mosmiyat, Shahrae Faisal, Bahadurabad, Tipu Sultan, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Gadap, and others.
Karachi has been grappling with intense heat, coupled with prolonged, unannounced load-shedding, despite assurances from power utilities. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded the average temperature for July as 27.9°C, with recent nights hitting a stifling 32°C, making it the second hottest of the year after July 1.
Earlier this week, the city’s temperature soared to 40.5°C, with a real feel of a blistering 56°C.
Today’s weather forecast from the Met Office indicates that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating southern parts of the country, while a westerly wave is affecting the northern regions.
The forecast predicts rain and thundershowers across Sindh, southern Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, the Potohar region, Islamabad, and Kashmir. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of southern Punjab and lower Sindh during this period.
