KARACHI: Tipu Sultan Police rescued an employee of a leading shipping company who was kept hostage in the company’s office during an operation at Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The employee was chained and kept hostage in the torture cell of the building for 8 days over the accusation of stealing Rs500,000.
According to the brother of the employee, Abdul Ghaffar was being tortured after covering his eyes with a cloth and was being forced to accept the theft. He was hanged for 5 hours and beaten with sticks, he added.
After being recovered, the kidnapped Abdul Ghaffar said that he had been working in this company for 2 years. Ghaffar said he was taken hostage in the office 8 days ago and was being forced to admit stealing Rs500,000 from the office.
The police took action at the request of the kidnapped’s father. In this regard, the police say that if Ghaffar was acussed of theft then he should have been handed over to them, no one is allowed to take the law into their hands and set up their own court.
According to Tipu Sultan Police, an FIR has been registered in this incident, the police say that the security guard in the office has been detained while legal action will be taken against all those responsible involved in the incident.
