A major incident of prisoner escape occurred last night from Malir Jail, in which a total of 216 inmates escaped, as reported by national media on Tuesday.
According to Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah, the exact number of escaped prisoners has been confirmed after an initial headcount.
The counting process in the barracks of Landhi Jail has been completed, according to which most of the prisoners escaped from Circle Number Four and Five. However, there are also reports of prisoners missing from other barracks.
Arshad Shah further stated that more than 80 prisoners have been re-arrested by district police from various locations, while more than 50 were caught within the jail colony limits by prison staff.
The majority of the escaped inmates are drug addicts. The jail administration and law enforcement agencies are taking swift action, and Superintendent Arshad Shah says that all escaped prisoners will be arrested soon.
