Two suspects have been sent on a 10-day physical remand by an anti-terrorism court in Karachi in connection with a recent blast near Karachi Airport, national media reported.
According to a report by ARY News, the suspects, identified as Javed and Gul Nisa, were presented in court after their initial remand expired. The investigation officer revealed that Javed had been identified by eyewitnesses.
Police claim the suspects aided the suicide bomber who targeted a convoy of Chinese nationals near the airport, with links to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The court has directed the investigation officer to submit a progress report during the next hearing as the investigation continues.
The blast, which occurred last month near Jinnah International Airport, resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and left several others injured, according to the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan.
At a press conference, Sindh’s Minister of Law, Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, along with IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, commended the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police for their swift action in apprehending the suspects and facilitators involved in the attack. The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The provincial minister and IGP further detailed the operation, revealing that Rs 7.1 million had been transferred to an individual named Saeed to purchase the vehicle used in the attack. The car, initially bought in Karachi, was moved out of the city, possibly to Balochistan, for the placement of explosives before being brought back to Karachi.
Additionally, it was revealed that Javed had informed the attacker about the departure of the Chinese nationals from the airport. The suicide bomber, identified through his fingerprint as Fahad Shah, also known as Aftab, carried out the attack.
So far, four arrests have been made, and authorities are continuing their search for an accomplice named Danish. A reward of Rs 5 million has been announced for the team responsible for dismantling the terrorist network.
