KARACHI: Railways police arrested 10 passengers at Cant Station Karachi on Saturday after the commuters staged a protest against a prolonged delay in the departure of trains.
As per details, larger numbers of passengers are waiting for departures of trains at Karachi Cant Station for more than 12 hours, but due to the situation created by torrential rains, almost all trains are late.
On Saturday afternoon, the waiting commuters started protesting against the railways’ administration at the cant station. Soon after they began protesting the railways’ police in plain cloth started a crackdown against the protesters and arrested at least 10 passengers and shifted them to the police station.
The eyewitnesses alleged that the police also tortured the protesters in front of their families, while some protester lost their cash and valuables during the police crackdown.
Passengers protested that the July 8 Millat Express did not leave after 22 hours, while other trains are also delayed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the government had announced special trains for Eid, as large numbers of people belonging to interior Sind and Punjab go to their native areas for Eid.
