Popular Bollywood actress and politician Kangana Ranaut has stirred controversy with her recent comments about the Indian showbiz industry during a podcast with Raj Shamani.
Ranaut criticized Bollywood figures and the industry broadly, referring to them as “stupid,” “shallow,” “grasshoppers,” and “dimwits,” and described Bollywood parties as akin to “trauma.”
In the podcast, Kangana was asked about her friendships within Bollywood. She responded, “I’m not the Bollywood type and can’t be friends with Bollywood people. They are so full of themselves—stupid, dumb, and obsessed with trivial things. How can you be friends with people who have no idea what’s going on? They lack meaningful conversation.”
When the host suggested that not everyone in the industry could be like that, Kangana insisted she had seen enough of Bollywood. She critiqued the routine of many Bollywood actors, noting that their days often revolve around physical training, gym sessions, and watching TV or sleeping.
On the topic of Bollywood parties, Kangana mimicked celebrity conversations, which she described as fixated on branded bags, cars, diets, and celebrity gossip. She expressed her dismay, saying, “I’ll be very shocked to find a decent person in Bollywood who talks about anything beyond branded bags or cars. The discussions are so shallow—Bollywood parties feel like trauma to me. They are all dimwits with no depth or intellectual engagement.”
