Balochistan, the largest but least populous province of Pakistan has been most adversely affected by the heavy rainfall in the country.
A total of 26,567 homes were damaged and 7,167 homes were demolished as a result of the flash floods and incessant rains in Balochistan. Among those heart-wrenching tales, there is a story of Wahab Bugti, a Coke Studio famed singer who rose to fame this year from Kana Yaari.
Kana Yaari was one of the initial songs of Coke Studio season 14, which was released in January 2022. Bugti, along with fellow singers Kaifi Khalil and rapper Eva B, created magic with his song.
Kana Yaari was a regional representation, which did not stop there as it became global with rattling beats that literally hijacked the song; turning Kana Yaari into a Balochi-dancehall blending in a mixture of rock music.
Now Bugti, the same singer whose song has been played over 18 million times on YouTube alone, has been badly affected by flooding in Balochistan.
It was last week when his picture wearing a shalwar kameez, along with his family standing in front of a collapsed wall and inundated fields in Dera Murad Jamali went viral. It did not go unnoticed and fortunately, Bugti’s tale managed to rattle some souls, thanks to social media.
In an interview with Dawn on a telephone, Bugti confessed that many people called him after his picture was shared on social media. “We are fine and have moved to another place in my town. But we will move back after things become normal,” he said.
He also shared how torrential rains destroyed his house and forced him to live with a friend, away from his village, along with his children.
Bugti, who is the father of eight children talked about his musical journey and said that he was introduced to Coke Studio by singer Xulfi.
Bugti also shared how many celebrities have called him and asked him to move with them to other cities but for Bugti, the Kana Yaari singer is good where is right now.
