In 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan had launched the ‘Kamyab Jawan Program’, one of the government’s flagship initiatives, to facilitate youth in the country offering a set of opportunities related to skill training, education, civic engagement and entrepreneurship.

The initiative- meaning successful youth, will not only save employment opportunities but also improve the progress of small and medium enterprises by providing loans worth Rs100 billion to youth during five years.

Through six flagship initiatives under the Kamyab Jawan Program, the ‘Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme’ will provide subsidized business loans to young aspiring entrepreneurs for the promotion of the SME sector.

Later, the government enhanced the upper limit of loans received under the ‘Kamyab Jawan’ programme for youth to invest in large businesses.

This will allow budding entrepreneurs to receive a loan of up to Rs25 million instead of five million rupees. The government also decided to reduce the markup rate from eight percent.

A quota of 25 percent has been allocated for women to increase their share in the national economy. Kamyab Jawan program has been prepared under National Youth Development Framework and will act as a milestone to make the youth of the country independent.

Other programs

The scheme visualizes ‘Hunar se Karobar Tak’, where the youth will be graduated from basic assets transfer to interest-free loans to micro and then finally small loans as depicted in the graph.

This is developed in collaboration with three main departments, namely Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) which will look after the asset transfer program and the interest-free loan program and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) along with three major banks (National Bank of Pakistan, Bank of Punjab and Bank of Khyber).

Two tiers have been set up for the loans. T1 loans- from Rs 100,000 to Rs. 0.5 million and T2 loans- above Rs 0.5 million and up to Rs 5 million. Loan from Rs10,000 to Rs100,000 will be interest free. The processing duration of the loan applications is 30 working days.
