KARACHI: A junior Grade 19 officer has been appointed acting Director General Colleges Sindh in the presence of senior professors, it has been revealed.
Rashid Hussain Mahar, a junior officer of Grade 19, has been appointed as Director General Colleges Sindh. The appointment has exacerbated problems in Regional Directorate Colleges and caused resentment among more than 100 senior officers, who have been overlooked.
An investigation revealed that Rashid Mahar was absent from services for 15 years. His brother-in-law was a computer operator in College Education Department, who along with the section officer promoted him to Grade 19 through the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). A complaint in this regard was filed by former RD Prof Inam Ahmed.
The interviews of five senior Grade 20 officers for the post of Director General Colleges were held. This includes Regional Director Sukkur Ghulam Sarwar Abbasi, Regional Director Larkana Ghulam Sarwar Leghari, Government Degree College Zamzama Principal Riffat Zehra Zaidi, Government Hyderabad College Principal Zeenat Hashmi and senior Sindhi Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Manjhi.
On the recommendation of Secretary Colleges, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Manjhi’s report was sent to the Chief Minister’s House. However, the summary for the appointment of DG Colleges has been lying in the CM’s House for the last three months. According to reports, the summary has been suppressed on the recommendation of the acting Director General Rashid Mahar.
Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Manjhi is senior Grade 20 officer and Sindhi language professor. He has earlier served as acting Director General Culture Department. He has been serving on deputation as chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority and will retire in 2023 after completing his term.
