ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court of Islamabad has sent journalist Asad Toor to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) remand for three days in the case pertaining to his alleged involvement in a vile social media drive against Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, local media reported on Sunday.
The FIA had begged the court to give YouTuber Toor’s remand for a period of nine days, but the request was rejected by the latter’s attorneys.
Duty Magistrate Abbas Shah heard the arguments and then reserved his decision, approving the FIA’s request and granting the journalist a three-day custody.
Toor declared during courtroom arguments that he would not give up his cell phone or divulge his sources since a journalist’s sources are the most valuable asset. He disclosed to the court that he was fasting. He claimed that even though they gave him food, he refused to eat.
Toor ended his hunger strike after a journalist who was in the courtroom forced him to. Since being taken into custody by the FIA on February 27, the vlogger has been on a hunger strike.
Imaan Mazari, Toor’s other lawyer, had said that the investigation done so far had nothing to do with contempt of judges.
“He is being pressurized to reveal his sources and social media accounts passwords. Asad Toor is denying to share his journalistic sources,” she said.
