Aitkaf is a deeply spiritual practice observed by Muslims during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan. It is undertaken with the intention of seeking Lailatul Qadr (the Night of Decree), a night believed to hold immense blessings and mercy.
During Aitkaf, individuals seclude themselves in a mosque, dedicating their time solely to worship, prayer, and self-reflection.
The spiritual retreat allows Muslims to strengthen their devotion to Allah, seek forgiveness, and detach from worldly distractions. While in Aitkaf, participants engage in acts of worship such as reciting the Quran, performing additional prayers, and making supplications.
One common question regarding Aitkaf is whether smoking cigarettes, beedis, or using hookah is permissible within the mosque. Religious scholars emphasize that it is not allowed.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) discouraged individuals from entering mosques after consuming items like raw onions and garlic due to their strong odors.
Since cigarettes produce smoke and an unpleasant smell, smoking during Aitkaf is considered inappropriate and disrespectful to the sanctity of the mosque.
