There are reports that the MCU, which is in crisis due to its recent flops, might make a return of significant characters like Iron Man and Captain America.
It’s been four years, and the death of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man character still haunts Marvel fans as his character was one of the most iconic and consequential moments of the MCU.
Marvel Studios released the final trailer for ‘The Marvels’ coming to theaters this Friday which Avengers favourite character Iron Man and Captain America. That is according to a report by Variety which gives details of the MCU in a crisis. If true, the MCU is at least in a good position to retcon the departure of their biggest star, Robert Downey Jr., without it feeling too dissatisfying.
The Multiverse saga, while still somewhat preoccupied with Thanos’ legacy, has at least established myriad ways in which just about any character can make an MCU appearance or reappearance, from fleeting fan-cast payoffs to variants that are identical in every way to the original. Having Marvel bring Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man back into the fold, then, can be achieved pretty simply.
The biggest problem with re-recruiting Sacred Timeline Stark is that it would diminish his sacrifice at the end of Avengers: Endgame. However, if Marvel decides to bring back Iron Man, Loki’s newfound ability to control his time-slipping power could open up the possibility for him to visit and recruit Tony Stark from a timeline where he is still alive and powerful.
