KARACHI: The citizens of Karachi are still waiting for the confirmation about the Sui Southern Gas Company’s plan regarding the gas load management during Ramadan, especially in Sehar, and Iftar as the federal gas supplier to southern Pakistan is still undecided on whether to extend the current loadshedding timings to the holy month.
It should be noted that currently SSGC is carrying out load management from 11pm in night till 7 in the morning, which is causing problems for the masses.
The Sui Southern Gas Company will only be in a position to provide gas for 2 to 3 hours except for Sehr and Iftar timings, ARY News reported quoting sources in the SSGC.
The SSGC management has called a meeting at its head office to decide on the final load management schedule for the Sehr and Iftar timings in Ramadan.
According to the SSGC spokeswoman, the company has not yet decided to supply gas at Sehr timing.
It’s worth mentioning that Karachi has been experiencing severe gas loadshedding since November. The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had announced that it would supply gas to its domestic consumers thrice a day during meal times, meaning people have had to live without gas during remaining 16 hours. However, there were widespread complaints that the gas utility had failed to honor its own announcement as many city areas remained without gas even during the already promised 12pm to 2pm lunch hours.
Earlier, to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during Ramadan, particularly during Sehr and Iftar, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif issued a directive.
Power Minister Khurram Dastagir has directed the power supply firms to guarantee continuous power during Sehar and iftar hours in accordance with the PM’s instructions.
