Rana Sanaullah, adviser to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on political affairs, recently revealed that the army chief had expressed reservations over the lack of prosecution of those involved in the May 9 incidents.
In an interview on Friday evening, Rana Sanaullah said that the army chief’s displeasure is mainly with the Supreme Court and the judges. Not from the government. He criticised the judiciary for not making enough progress in the cases.
He said the November 26 incident would not have happened if the cases had been tried and blamed the lack of action against the perpetrators of the May 9 incident as the reason for the subsequent chaos.
Rana Sanaullah also highlighted the current political tensions and conflicts with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He claimed that the PTI had suffered irreparable damage after the November 26 incidents.
He warned that if PTI launches any civil disobedience movement, it will fail miserably. He added that the PTI’s first protests had also ended after three days of chaos.
Regarding the talks, Rana Sanaullah criticised PTI’s strategy, calling their negotiating team “non-serious.” He said that meaningful dialogue is not possible when conditions are laid down in advance. He stressed that the only solution to political conflicts is open political dialogue.
Commenting on Senator Faisal Vawda’s statements regarding a new political setup, Rana Sanaullah described them as the result of personal desires. “Some individuals may be the favourites of the system but they cannot work outside it.
He suggested that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif should consider giving Faisal Vawda a role in the government. Because he has been neglected after becoming a senator.
