Is the film about Pakistan?
Sky Force delves into the alleged untold story of the Indian Air Force’s retaliatory airstrike on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase during the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War. The conflict, primarily fought over Jammu and Kashmir, extended to the skies, turning aerial combat into a defining feature of the war.
The Sargodha airbase, became a critical target for the IAF, which launched a series of coordinated attacks. The IAF claimed to have destroyed numerous Pakistani Air Force (PAF) aircraft during the operation. However, the battle also witnessed one of the most iconic feats in aviation history.
PAF’s legendary Squadron Leader M.M. Alam achieved an extraordinary milestone on September 7, 1965, by shooting down five Indian Air Force jets in less than a minute while piloting his F-86 Sabre. This record, which made him an “Ace in a Day,” remains unbeaten to this day. Over the course of 11 days, M.M. Alam accumulated nine confirmed kills and two damaged enemy aircraft, cementing his place in military history.
While the IAF’s strikes demonstrated daring and determination, many analysts, including Indian experts, acknowledge that the PAF’s strategic preemptive moves provided them with a tactical edge during the war.
