NEW DELHI: Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has praised the way Pakistan have been playing cricket in the recent past.
“Pakistan have been playing very good cricket and the emergence of three-four players have really helped them a lot,” the right-arm pacer said while speaking to India.com on Monday.
The 31-year-old also opened up on the comparison between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli. Shami thinks that it is unfair on Babar to compare him with the likes of Kohli, Joe Root or either Steve Smith.
“No doubt Babar Azam is a great player. But to compare him with the likes of Steve Smith, Joe Root or Virat Kohli will be unfair on him,” Shami said. Shami added that let him play for few good years and then people can judge where he stands.
“I would say let him play for that many years and then maybe we can judge. At the moment, if he continues to play like that, then he would obviously end his career as one of the greats from Pakistan. Good luck Babar Azam, I would say,” Shami added.
Earlier, India’s only Muslim player Mohammed Shami was abused on social media after his side was thrashed by Pakistan at the T20 World Cup. Violence against Muslims in India was also reported after the emphatic 10-wicket win in T20 World Cup.
The 31-year-old Shami became the main target after the defeat in Dubai. Hundreds of messages were left on Shami’s Instagram account saying he was a “traitor” and should be thrown out of the Indian team.
