CHANDIGARH: Indian Punjab’s Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Labh Singh Ugoke presided over a session in a government school where his mother works as a sweeper in the past.
Baldev Kaur, Ugoke’s mother, has been working at the school for the past 25 years.
“It’s a matter of pride. I’m very happy that my son has become an MLA,” she said. The MLA himself studied at the same school.
The former Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader recently defeated former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh by a margin of 37,550 votes.
“We have always worked hard to earn money. Despite my son’s position, I will continue to perform my duty in the school,” Kaur said after her son’s win.
Ugoke is known for climbing the ranks within the party quite quickly after he joined it in 2013. He used to work in a small mobile-repairing store before entering politics.
