Kannada film director Guruprasad, 52, celebrated for his acclaimed films like Mata, Eddelu Manjunatha, and Director’s Special, was found dead in his Bengaluru apartment in Madanayakanahalli in what is suspected to be a suicide.
Guruprasad’s body was found in a decomposed state, leading to the conclusion that he died a few days ago. Police have registered an unnatural death case and initiated an investigation.
The death came to light after other residents sensed a foul smell from his flat. According to sources, Guruprasad had suffered financial losses and borrowed money from people. His recent movie Ranganayaka turned out to be a flop, pushing him to depression, said sources.
After divorcing his first wife, Guruprasad recently married another woman. His movies Mata (2006) and Eddelu Manjunatha (2009) were box office hits and received positive reviews. He was also a judge in some Kannada reality shows in the past.
Born on November 2, 1972, Guruprasad hailed from Kanakapura. He made his directorial debut with the film in 2006, Mata featuring Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh in the lead role. The comedy-drama is considered one of the classics in Kannada for its bold message with a brilliant touch of humor.
