MIRPUR: India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur is receiving flak for her misbehaviour during the third and final ODI against Bangladesh.
Kaur hit the stumps with the bat after the on-field umpire gave her out. Harman also spoke against the umpiring during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Kaur also misbehaved with Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana after the game. The match ended in a tie after India failed to chase a target of 226 runs.
The International Cricket Council has fined has deducted 75 percent of her match fee and added 3 demerit points to her record.
During the match, Kaur was controversially given out, leading to an unexpected reaction from her. “The umpiring was poor and we will prepare accordingly the next time we come to Bangladesh,” Harmanpreet said in the post-match press conference.

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana slammed her Indian counterpart for her behaviour with the hosts. According to a report, Harmanpreet shouted “bring the umpires too” when the cricketers from both sides lined up for the traditional post-series photograph. She had hinted at the umpires being part of the Bangladesh team.
Nigar felt insulted and left the ceremony with her teammates. She also refused to hold the joint trophy with the Indian captain.
“It’s her problem but she should have shown manners while dealing with Bangladesh players. I didn’t feel right to be there for the photograph and left with my players. Cricket is a game of respect and discipline,” said Nigar Sultana.
She also refused to accept that umpiring was poor. “They were experienced umpires from international cricket. Their decisions were final even if we like it or not,” she added.
Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana refuted reports of Harmanpreet’s behaviour and claimed that the captain didn’t say anything bad about the rival skipper.
“You are saying that Harmanpreet said a thing or two about the umpires but not the captain of Bangladesh. As far as I know, she never spoke about the rival captain. I can’t talk about something which is not there,” she said.
While Bangladesh’s women scored 225/4 in 50 overs, India were bowled out on the same score. The series finished 1-1.
