ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Friday appeared before the court of Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry to tender his apology about his remarks in the Islamabad rally, however the judge was on leave.
Imran was subjected to contempt proceedings last month after criticizing Judge Chaudhry at a rally in Islamabad’s F-9 Park on August 20. Judge Chaudhry had approved PTI leader Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand in a sedition case.
Last week, the Islamabad High Court deferred contempt proceedings against Imran Khan till October 3 after he offered to apologies.
The court reader, Choudhry Yasir Ayaz, and stenographer Farooq informed the former premier that the judicial magistrate was on leave. The PTI chief then left a message for the judge with Ayaz.
“I have come to apologies to judicial magistrate Zeba Chaudhry,” he could be heard saying to the court reader in a video shared by the PTI on Twitter.
“You have to tell Madam Zeba Chaudhry that Imran Khan had visited and wanted to apologies if his words hurt her sentiments,” he said. The PTI chief then left the court.
On August 23, a three-judge bench had issued a show cause notice to Imran over his remarks against Additional Sessions Judge, Islamabad.
A five-member larger bench, headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah and comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb, Justice Babar Sattar, and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jehangri then heard the case.
