The Islamabad High Court has directed the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University to conduct the MDCAT exam within two weeks.
The ruling came during a hearing of an intra-court appeal against a single bench decision regarding the re-examination of the MDCAT.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz presided over the hearing. The court emphasized the importance of ensuring fairness in the examination process.
A lawyer representing the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) stated that the earlier exam had not been annulled by the single bench, which had merely granted students another opportunity.
The court inquired whether both results could be presented, to which the lawyer responded that the single bench had recommended conducting the exam again at the previous fee structure. The Chief Justice then asked about the current exam fee, which the petitioner’s lawyer confirmed to be a total of Rs8,000—4,000 to the PMDC and Rs4,000 to the university. Another lawyer, Jahangir Jadoon, clarified that the PMDC receives only Rs2,000 from that fee.
Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz questioned whether there was any issue with conducting the exam again, while the Chief Justice remarked that the court was providing this opportunity due to the circumstances, reiterating that no other order could be issued apart from the one made by the single bench.
The lawyer for the medical university confirmed that the MDCAT exam was scheduled to be conducted on December 22. The court then officially ordered the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University to ensure the MDCAT exam takes place within the next two weeks.
