ISLAMABAD: A petition has been filed to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Inaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
PTI chief’s lawyer Naeem Haider Panjhuta filed a petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC) urging to transfer the former prime minister from the notorious prison known for its harsh conditions.
The petition said the PTI chairman detention in Attock jail should be declared illegal. It said the should be provided Class A facilities in jail and his personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan should be allow to examine him and conduct a medical checkup. It further said the former premier should be allowed to meet his family and lawyers.
Earlier, PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen said that police at the prison refused entry to a legal team who went to see Imran Khan. Police told the lawyers to come again on Monday. He said the party would file an appeal as there were plenty of loopholes in the verdict.
Punjab Home Department on Sunday approved B class in Attock Jail for PTI Chairman who has been kept in Barrack No 3 under B class in the jail. The PTI chairman is allowed to meet his family in the jail one day a week.
The PTI chief spent the first night in the high security barracks of Attock Jail and was given dinner and breakfast according to the prison manual. He was given a slice of bread, fried and boiled egg for breakfast along with butter and tea after Fajar prayer.
The jail sources said the PTI chairman spent part of the night sleeping and got up for Tahajud prayer and after performing Fajar prayer, he had breakfast provided by the jail. He has also been provided towel, tissue paper, mineral water, glasses, tasbih, watch, chair, and mats for sleeping on the ground.
Security was on high alert inside and outside the Attock jail and the barracks in which the PTI chairman was imprisoned was surrounded by commandos of the Prisons Department and prison police. District police and Rangers were also patrolling the area
Before shifting the PTI chief to his cell, the medical board headed by Medical Superintendent DHQ Hospital Attock Dr Jawad Elahi examined and declared him medically fit.
District Commissioner Attock has imposed section 144 in the district till further orders. Built in 1905 on 67 acres to accommodate 450 prisoners, the Attock District Jail is about 73 kilometers off the federal capital.
