ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday declared plot allotment to judges, bureaucrats and government employees unconstitutional.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Athar Minallah will pronounce the verdict.
“As elected and chosen representatives they are only empowered to frame and formulate policies in the best interest of the people at large and in the public interest, rather than providing opportunities to a few powerful elite to make windfall gains in derogation to public interest,” the 58-page judgment read.
The court ruled that the scheme of allotting plots in F-12, G-12, F-14 and F-15 is unconstitutional, illegal and against public interest as state land is not for elites but is for the public.
IHC that Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) cannot design a scheme against the constitution.
The court directed the housing secretary to put its verdict before the federal cabinet within two weeks. The court expressed hope that the cabinet and prime minister would devise a policy for four sectors keeping in view the public interest.
