ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday barred police from harassing Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan during Eid holidays.
Imran Khan had filed a petition in the IHC, expressing apprehensions that he could be arrested upon his arrival in Islamabad. He had requested the court to link his arrest to judicial permission, and to order the provision of information on all cases registered against him in police stations across Islamabad, including a case filed in secret.
He has also claimed that the federal government has plans to arrest him during Eid holidays and has accused the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) of harassing him since the regime change.
The petition has named the federation as a party through the home secretary, inspector-general of police, and director-general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Khan has stated that he has been targeted because he has been raising his voice against corruption, and cases have been filed against him across the country.
After the hearing on Thursday, the Islamabad High Court issued a notice to the government and summoned response. The hearing was later scheduled for April 27. The court also accepted Khan’s plea to keep his petition pending until after Eid.
