Schools in Karachi might face a six-day closure as security is heightened around the Expo Centre for the IDEAS 2024 exhibition, set to take place from November 19 to 22.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate the event, organized by the Defense Export Promotion Organization (DEPO), which will host prominent international leaders, officials, and defense experts.
Schools situated along Shahrah-e-Faisal and Habib Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road are likely to remain closed during the event for public safety, resuming operations on Monday, November 25, after the weekend. However, final decisions will be made after authorities review the detailed security plan.
In preparation for IDEAS 2024, Karachi’s Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive traffic plan, with several routes near the Expo Centre restricted from 7 am to 7 pm. These include the roads from Hassan Square Flyover to National Stadium Road, both flyovers on Stadium Road, and Dalmia Road from Stadium Signal to Hassan Square.
Moreover, the left turn from University Road’s NIPA intersection to the Expo Centre will be closed. Heavy and commercial vehicles will be rerouted, avoiding Stadium Road via Rashid Minhas Road and instead redirected to Drig Road, with alternate options on Shaheed Millat and Teen Hatti Roads.
