Beggars are really millionaire in Pakistan, aren’t they?
A family from Gujranwala, known for being beggars, stunned many by reportedly spending an eye-popping PKR 12.5 million on their grandmother’s fortieth-day memorial ceremony, sparking widespread media attention.
The lavish event attracted thousands of attendees from across Punjab, leaving people in awe of its scale and grandeur.
The ceremony began with a traditional breakfast, including “siri paye,” followed by a lavish dinner in the evening, where 250 goats were slaughtered to prepare the feast. The menu featured tender mutton, naan, sweet rice (mataranjan), carrot and apple preserves, and a variety of beverages.
According to media reports, the event took place near the Rahwali Railway Station in the Cantt area of Gujranwala, with guests seated in private marquees and served in an opulent setting. The extravagant spending raised questions about the family’s lifestyle and priorities, considering their known status as beggars.
