The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table has seen significant changes following New Zealand’s convincing victory over England in the third T20I of the series. The win propelled New Zealand to fourth place, while England slipped to sixth with a points percentage of 43.18.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan are the two teams that could surpass New Zealand. For Sri Lanka to move ahead, they need to defeat Australia 1-0, which would take their points percentage to 48.72. However, a 1-1 draw would leave Sri Lanka at 46.15, below New Zealand’s current 48.21.
Pakistan, meanwhile, have four Tests remaining — two in South Africa and two at home against the West Indies. To overtake New Zealand, they must win all four matches, which would give them a points percentage of 52.38. However, even a single draw would drop their percentage to 47.62, keeping them below New Zealand.
India and South Africa remain well-placed. India are assured of finishing with at least 48.25, while South Africa are set to reach 52.78, both above New Zealand. Australia, however, could mathematically drop to as low as 44.74 if they lose all their remaining matches, or 46.49 if the Brisbane Test ends in a draw.
In the ongoing ICC WTC 2023-2025, teams earn 12 points for a win, 6 points for a tie, and 4 points for a draw. Teams will lose one championship point for each over short due to slow over-rates. Rankings are determined based on the percentage of points won.
