Actress Deepika Padukone frequently finds herself in the eye of a political maelstrom, but the celebrity claims she is largely unconcerned by it. The performer, whose most recent film appearance was in the hit Pathaan, spoke candidly about the issues that have dogged her over the years.
Deepika Padukone was asked to comment on the controversies involving her over the past few years. The actor said that she chooses to remain simply busy at work than address them.
“I don’t know if I’m supposed to feel something about it. But the truth is, I don’t feel anything about it,” Deepika said.
For her role as Queen Padmavati in the movie Padmavat, Padukone first faced political opposition. After a fringe group claimed it violated Rajput sentiment, the movie’s name was changed from Padmavati to Padmavat and other sequences were edited.
Additionally, she faced criticism for joining a student demonstration against the revised Citizenship Act at Jawaharlal Nehru University in January 2020 when she was on campus. The star didn’t speak during the protest, but with her gesture, she attracted attention and trolling.
Earlier this year, she was caught in a storm yet again over her song “Besharam Rang” from Shah Rukh Khan-led Pathaan, in which she featured in a saffron-coloured bikini in one sequence. BJP ministers and right-wing outfits claimed the track insulted the saffron colour “which is holy for the Hindu community.”
Meanwhile, Deepika is on a career high as a result of her role in the hit movie Pathaan. The action movie, in which she played a Pakistani agent, broke all box office records by bringing in much than Rs 542 cr in net receipts from all of India. In her upcoming films, Deepika will appear in Project K, a sci-fi actioner co-starring Prabhas, and Fighter, the follow-up to Pathaan from director Siddharth Anand, which also stars Hrithik Roshan. Both films are slated for January release the following year.
