New gas reserves have been discovered in North Waziristan, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mari Petroleum Company has revealed the discovery of substantial natural gas reserves in the Shiva One and Shiva Two areas of North Waziristan. The gas reserves are expected to result in annual savings of 265 million dollars for a nation grappling with both financial and energy crises.
According to details provided by the company, the reserves were identified during the drilling of two wells in the Shiva area of North Waziristan, constituting 5% of the country’s total gas demand.
Asad Raza, Chief of Staff at Mari Petroleum, stated that a local processing plant has been established to purify the gas and facilitate its transfer to the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) network.
“With the installation of the plant, more than 900 local skilled workers will gain employment, and the new reserves will lead to an annual savings of approximately 265 million dollars in foreign exchange, reducing dependence on LNG imports,” he added.
