RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police on Sunday claimed to have recovered a huge cache of weapons from a car intercepted in the Potohar area.
A police team led by SSP Civil Line Banish Fatima and SHO airport, Mohmad Riaz, during snap checking of the car recovered weapons and ammunition.
The police said they seized an assortment of nearly 10 rifles, seven 44-bore rifles, 53 magazines, two rifles of MP-5 as well as a large cache of bullets.
The police also seized the vehicle by arresting the accused, Tabeullah. A case has been also registered against the arrested accused and a preliminary probe is now underway.
SSP Civil Line Banish Fatima said the police action is the result of CPO Mohammad Ahsan Younis’s special orders in the wake of the cricket match, adding that crackdown against illicit arms will continue. CPO Rawalpindi Mohammed Ahsan Younis congratulated the police team on the action.
Earlier, on Saturday night huge quantities of weapons were recovered in a house in Karachi’s Federal B Area. Intelligence agencies and the Special Security Unit raided a house and found it full of weapons.
38 SMG rifles, 75 magazines, nine mortar rounds, 60 hand grenades, 10 detonators, 53 boxes of bullets and two other pistols at the house. Police also found a satellite phone and two passports.
