India on Saturday once again became T20 World Cup champion by defeating South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Both the T20 World Cup winners and runner-ups received a huge sum as prize money. The winning Indian team took home $2.45 million, while the runner-up South Africa received $1.28 million.
ICC also offers prize money for the teams that make it to the semi-finals. So both England and Afghanistan, the semi-finalists, received $787,500 each.
The ICC had allocated a record total prize pool of $11.25 million for this T20 World Cup edition. Teams that were eliminated in the second round got $382,500 each. Teams finishing between ninth and 12th places received $247,500 each. Those ranked from 13th to 20th were given $225,000.
A further incentive for teams was that each match won, excluding the semi-finals and finals earned them an additional $31,154.
The T20 World 2024, which started on June 1, was co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States. It saw participation of 20 teams which have been divided into four groups.
