The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) continues to block the SIMs of non-filers countrywide.
According to sources, so far, 210,000 non-filers’ mobile SIMs have been blocked, while 61,996 SIMs have been restored upon filing tax returns.
Sources revealed that telecom companies are being sent data of 5,000 mobile SIMs daily. Overall, a total of 506,671 non-filers’ SIMs will be blocked.
It should be noted that in recent days, the FBR issued an Income Tax General Order to block the mobile SIMs of more than 606,000 individuals.
According to the FBR, the income of these individuals is taxable, but despite being capable of filing income tax returns, they are not doing so.
These individuals are not included in the FBR’s Active Taxpayer List, therefore, the mobile phone connections of those who do not file income tax returns can be disconnected at any time.
FBR spokesperson Bakhtiar Ahmed clarified that only around 2.5 million individuals, out of a population of 250 million, are considered non-filers.
