As Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi braces itself for another week of scorching heat, the mercury is expected to soar, potentially reaching a blistering 40 degrees Celsius.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning, indicating that heatwave conditions are likely to persist across most districts of Sindh, with coastal areas experiencing particularly hot and humid weather. Daytime temperatures are projected to soar 6-8°C above normal in upper districts throughout the week.
Today, the port city recorded temperatures hovering around 34°C, coupled with a humidity level of 60 percent. Such conditions are set to prevail until at least the 5th of the next month, with Karachi residents bracing themselves for potentially even hotter days ahead.
Between May 29th and 31st, Karachi could experience maximum temperatures soaring between 40°C and 42°C, amplifying concerns about the adverse effects of the prolonged heatwave.
However, amidst the sweltering conditions, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Meteorological experts have hinted at the possibility of pre-monsoon rainfall in the first week of June. This forecast offers a ray of relief for residents, promising respite from the scorching temperatures and providing much-needed reprieve from the relentless heat.
