Amid increasing terror attacks, 2023 was a deadly year for Pakistan as more than 1,000 civilians and security forces officials were killed, compared with 566 terrorists killed during the outgoing year.
The security forces conducted as many as many as 18,736 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across the country killing 566 terrorists and some 5,161 were arrested, a report showed.
Meanwhile, the authorities took effective measures to bolster national defence and security against terrorism, and took timely action against the terrorist, the report added.
The report highlighted the involvement of Afghanistan-based terrorists in the terror activities carried out against Pakistani nationals in the country.
According to the report, effective operations of the intelligence agencies resulted in the surrender of Gulzar Imam alias Shambay and Sarfraz Ahmed Bungulzai, commanders of the banned Baloch National Army.
The report revealed that as many as 15,063 intelligence-based operations were conducted in Balochistan in which 109 terrorists were killed and 447, the highest among the four provinces, were killed in a total of 1,942 IBOs in KP.
Likewise, 190 IBOs were conducted in Punjab, 14 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 1,987 in Sindh in which 10 terrorists were killed.
More than 1,000 Pakistanis were killed in terror attacks during 2023, out of which around 260 were officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army while hundreds of civilians were the victims of terror attacks.
