Deactivate Facebook and Instagram searches exploded after Meta has revealed subscriptions plans for its premier social media platforms.
It’s obvious by now that Meta’s plans to charge subscriptions for Facebook and Instagram didn’t go down well the users.
As noted by VPNOverview.com(opens in new tab), a short peek at Google Trends reveals a significant surge in searches for “Deactivate Instagram,” with an astounding increase of 2,400% peaking just after the news broke on February 19.
Deactivate Facebook searches increased by 1,566%. Even though Google Trends, which tracks how frequently people use particular terms when searching the internet with Google, indicates that things stabilized after those significant spikes, it’s obvious that Meta’s plans scared off many users enough to make them think about quitting those social media platforms.
It’s worth mention that Meta announced its subscription plans so soon after Musk bought the rival Twitter platform and implemented controversial changes with the Twitter Blue subscription.

Like Twitter, it appears that Meta is attempting to figure out how to monetize its social media platforms. It appears that the company hopes to increase its profits by offering a “Meta Verified subscription” for $11.99 / AU$19.99 (roughly £10) (or $14.99 / AU$24.99 (roughly £13) for mobile users) with the promise of “increased visibility and reach with prominence in some areas of the platform,” including in search, comments, and recommendations.
