LAHORE: Singer Sanam Marvi’s husband Hamid Ali has requested the court to dismiss his wife’s plea for a khula (woman’s right to divorce) which she submitted in a local court.
Last week, popular folk and Sufi singer Sanam Marvi, has filed a petition in a family court in Lahore seeking divorce from her husband.
The singer stated that she married Hamid Ali in 2009 but after some time her husband’s attitude towards her changed.
Responding to Sanam Marvi’s khula petition, Hamid Ali turned down all allegations of domestic abuse on his wife. He said that he never misbehaved or abused her, and takes care of his wife and children.
Marvi debuted in 2009 on PTV but she shot to fame after performing at Coke Studio. The folk and Sufi singer claimed that the attitude of her husband changed towards her after some time as she gained fame.
She also blamed that her husband started torturing her in front of the children, adding that she tolerated the behaviour for the sake of her family.
Sanam married Hamid Ali in 2009 after her former husband Aftab Ahmed was killed in Karachi the same year.
