Flight operations between Gwadar and Muscat are scheduled to begin on January 10, 2025, from the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA).
A press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) highlighted that PM Shehbaz praised the new airport as “a shining example of China-Pakistan friendship.”
“We are deeply grateful to our esteemed friend China for constructing an airport that meets international standards and is equipped with modern facilities,” he stated, emphasizing that the operation of NGIA will stimulate regional prosperity and create numerous job opportunities.
The NGIAP, a flagship initiative of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is a $246 million investment funded with Chinese assistance.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed authorities to develop a comprehensive strategy to position NGIA as a major transit hub. He stressed the importance of improving connectivity between NGIA and other regions, particularly Balochistan.
The meeting also received a detailed briefing on the operational readiness of NGIA. It was noted that NGIA is Pakistan’s largest airport by area, with the capacity to accommodate A-380 aircraft and handle up to 4 million passengers annually.
