The government has decided in principle to incorporate the oath of Khatm-e-Nabuwat (Finality of Prophethood, PBUH) into the nikahnama (marriage certificate form).
According to media reports, this proposed change will be reviewed in an upcoming cabinet meeting, where a summary related to the affidavit will be presented. If the federal cabinet approves it, the new requirement will make it mandatory to include an oath affirming the finality of Prophethood in all nikahnamas issued within Islamabad’s jurisdiction.
This means that Muslim couples will be required to make a solemn pledge of Khatm-i-Nabuwwat at the time of Nikah.
In 2022, the Shehbaz Sharif-led government assured the National Assembly that the oath of Khatm-e-Nabuwat would be included in the nikahnama within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), similar to the forms used by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and for passports. Later that year, the Punjab government formally issued a notification to include the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat oath in the nikahnama.
