The government rolled back the recent increase in metro bus fares in Islamabad and restored the fare to Rs50.
According to reports, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discussed public welfare projects and improvements in transport services in Islamabad.
Sources said the Prime Minister directed that the recent fare hike be withdrawn to provide relief to citizens ahead of Eid. Acting on this directive, Minister Mohsin Naqvi immediately reversed the fare increase.
The Prime Minister said that raising fares before Eid would affect the festive spirit of the people. He instructed that the official notification to cancel the fare increase.
It is recalled that the Capital Development Authority had announced increasing the bus fare from Rs50 to Rs100 with effect from June 1, 2025.
The move had triggered widespread criticism from the public and media, particularly ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, as it would have impacted over 90,000 daily passengers.
Officials had said the fare revision was inevitable due to rising operational costs, increased fuel prices, and the need to maintain service quality.
