ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Faisal Sultan has informed that the PTI-led federal government was negotiating with different countries and vaccine manufacturing companies to procure additional COVID-19 vaccines.
“The country will have sufficient doses of the vaccine in the coming months,” the special assistant said while addressing a press conference at the National Command and Operation Center in Islamabad today (Wednesday).
The special assistant informed that Covax has promised to provide seventeen million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine. “Seven million doses will be received in the first quarter whilst the remaining ten million doses in the next quarter,” he added.
Faisal Sultan said, “It is our desire that the vaccine reaches the seventy percent population by the end of this year.” Referring to the current vaccine doses, he said that an effective mechanism has been developed to ensure the administration of vaccines to the people.
He further informed that adult vaccine centers have been established across the country which currently has the capacity to administer vaccines to 40,000 people on daily basis. “This capacity will be further enhanced in the days to come,” he added.
Commenting on the vaccine, the Special Assistant said that the Sinapharm vaccine gifted by China to Pakistan was an effective and trusted vaccine. “It is being used in China and has also been authorized in Egypt and Hungary,” he added.
He expressed the confidence that this vaccine will prove to be an important step to protect our health workers from the pandemic.
