LAHORE: Governor Punjab Omar Sarfraz Cheema is expected to resign from his post following the ouster of Prime Minister Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion.
Sources revealed the governor will resign from his post within 48 hours once a new prime minister takes oath. A spokesman for Governor Punjab has denied reports of resigning from the slot and final decision would be taken after consultation with party leadership.
Omar Cheema arrived at Noor Khan Airbase in Islamabad on a special plane. He is expected to hold an important meeting with former prime minister Imran Khan at Banigala.
Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema took oath of his office on April 3 following removal of Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar from the post.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman said that he will step down from the governor’s post in case PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif gets elected as the prime minister of Pakistan. “Farman said he cannot give Shehbaz the protocol of a prime minister.
Sources revealed that Sindh Governor Imran Ismail is also likely yo tender his resignation. Ismail is currently in Islamabad to attend a PTI meeting and he is expected to hand down his resignation upon his return to Karachi.
