Former caretaker commerce minister Gohar Ejaz emphasized that the government should avoid imposing additional taxes on the public to address the Rs 180 billion tax deficit.Â
“The public is struggling to make ends meet due to rising inflation,” the former minister mentioned.
He also remarked, “Inflation has surged by 60% over the past two and a half years. The tax shortfall faced by the FBR should be tackled through reforms in the tax system.”
“The government ought to levy taxes on those high-profit sectors. Due to deficiencies in the tax system, these entities are reaping enormous profits.”
Relief in electricity bills should be offered to household, commercial, and industrial consumers.
He pointed out that there is no need for domestic electricity in winter, as the public can achieve this relief by finalizing contracts with IPPs by December 31.
Previously, Gohar expressed concerns about the issue of IPPs overcharging consumers.
