LAHORE: Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif at a courtroom and discussed the upcoming Senate elections.
Shehbaz Sharif was brought for the Ramzan Sugar Mills case hearing in the accountability court where he met the PPP leader. Hamza Shahbaz, former National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, Amir Muqam and Azam Tarrar were also present on the occasion.
Gillani inquired about the health of Shehbaz Sharif in the meeting with the PML-N leader at courtroom number 5 and consulted over the senate election. He also conveyed messages of former president Asif Ali Zardari and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to Shehbaz Sharif and apprised him on the Senate election strategy.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Gilani said the parliament is the supreme body where they speak for the people. “We respected the Parliament and worked for its supremacy,” he said. He added that there are always ups and downs in politics, however, the past should be forgotten and a way forward should be paved. “When I was the prime minister, I never allowed a clash with the opposition,” he said. “We also signed the Charter of Democracy and we are together again.”
He further maintained that the success of PDM would be the success of democracy. PML-N had announced to support Yousaf Raza Gillani in Senate elections after the PDM decided to field a joint candidate. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has also endorsed the nomination of the former prime minister.
