Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan and 78 PTI leaders and supporters are likely to be indicted in the GHQ attack case today.
Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah will hear the case against PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, while the hearing against Sheikh Rashid, Shibli Faraz, Umar Ayub, and others will take place in Kachehri Court.
GHQ attack case has been separated from 13 other cases of May 9 unrest. The hearing in other May 9 cases will be held on November 4. State Prosecutor Haseeb Sultan said the charge sheet will be issued to all accused in the GHQ attack case on Saturday.
On May 9, 2023, following Imran Khan’s arrest, widespread protests erupted across Pakistan, with his supporters and party members demanding his release. The protests escalated into riots, during which PTI supporters targeted and vandalized numerous civil and military installations including the General Headquarters(GHQ) of the army.
Key sites of unrest included the GHQ in Rawalpindi, Jinnah House in Lahore, Mianwali airbase, and Corps Commander House in Lahore.
The government has accused Imran Khan of being the “mastermind” behind these attacks, claiming to possess evidence linking him to the riots.
However, PTI had firmly rejected media claims suggesting that Imran Khan neither urged nor admitted to urging a protest outside the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi before his arrest on May 9.
