MIRPURKHAS: The first funerals of 74 deceased of Tezgam express fire took place today on Friday.
According to sources, the dead bodies were arrived from the site of the incident. The funeral held at Bismillah Mosque.
At least 42 people who died in the unfortunate fire incident were belonged to the mosque. They boarded on the train to attend a religious gathering near Lahore.
The deputy commissioner of Mirpurkhas, Attaullah Shah said that one of the bogies were carrying residents of the area. They have lost their lives in the Tezgam tragedy.
He added, “There was never such a tragic incident happened to Mirpurkhas.”
The reports confirmed that 24 residents of the town were injured. On the other hand, 40 people of Mirpurkhas are still missing.
A group of men attended the first funeral of a car mechanic, Mohammed Saleem today after morning prayers in the town.
The officials in Rahim Yar Khan said that the bodies had burnt beyond recognition and DNA testing is required to identify them. This process can take up to one month.
Earlier on Thursday morning, At least 73 people were killed and several injured when fire broke out in three bogies of Tezgam Express at Liaquatpur in Rahim Yar Khan.
The train was traveling to Rawalpindi from Karachi when it caught fire due to explosion in one of the gas cylinders. The fire engulfed three train carriages in no time.
Sheikh Rasheed said that members of tableeghi jamat were traveling in the train. The passengers were preparing breakfast when this unfortunate incident occurred.
The government will be giving Rs. 1.5 million to the families of deceased of the incident whereas Rs. 0.5 million will be given to the injured as a compensation money.
