A recent report revealed that nine Jewish congressmen were behind a letter urging US President Joe Biden to pressure Pakistan for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan.
The report, aired by Pakistani media on Sunday, further indicated that 29 of the signatories openly supported Israel, 13 sympathized with India, and 21 were historically against Pakistan.
The letter, signed by around 60 Democratic lawmakers, urged President Biden to use US leverage to secure the release of political prisoners in Pakistan, including Imran Khan.
This letter was led by Representative Greg Casar, marking the first coordinated congressional call for Imran Khan’s release amid his ongoing legal battles and imprisonment since August 2023.
Imran Khan’s incarceration and numerous cases against him, most of which have been dismissed or granted bail, were cited by his party as politically motivated.
However, his arrests following the May 9 violence have been attributed to the cases filed against him over the incidents involving attacks on key military sites.
It should be noted that Imran Khan himself is a critic of the US interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs of Pakistan and he is also blaming Washington for his ousting as Prime Minister in 2022.
