KARACHI: In a much-awaited move, the Four Paws team of vets has started examining the ailing elephant Noor Jehan at the Karachi Zoo. This came after Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) finally gave the green light to relocate two elephants – Noor Jehan and Madhubala – from Karachi Zoological Gardens to a sprawling Safari Park within a month.
On Tuesday, the KMC extended full support to Four Paws, an international animal welfare group, currently engaged in efforts to save Noor Jehan’s life at the zoo. In a press note issued to the media, Four Paws stated that the 17-year-old African elephant was in serious physical distress and would receive a thorough veterinary examination to determine her future care.
A team of doctors has examined the elephant, X-rays are being done & we are doing everything we can to get the elephant back to normal.
The elephant has been erected with the help of a crane, said Dr Amir Khalil.Team @fourpawsint on it.

The Four Paws team of vets has now started examining Noor Jehan, who has been showing signs of distress for some time. The team is planning to conduct an endoscopic examination, X-ray, ultrasound, and additional laboratory tests to get to the root of the problem.
This development has brought hope to animal lovers who have been advocating for better living conditions for the animals at the Karachi Zoo. The decision to relocate Noor Jehan and Madhubala is expected to improve their quality of life and ensure that they receive the care they need.
Pertinently, the move has also been welcomed by animal welfare activists who have been raising concerns about the welfare of animals at the zoo. The decision to relocate the elephants is being seen as a positive step towards improving the conditions of animals in captivity and ensuring their well-being.
As Noor Jehan’s health is being monitored closely, animal welfare organizations and activists are hoping that the KMC will take similar steps to improve the living conditions of other animals at the zoo.
