KARACHI: Former City Mayor of Karachi and Jamaat-i-Islami leader Naimatullah Khan died after a prolonged illness on Tuesday.
According to Jamaat-i-Islami Media Cell, Jamaat-i-Islami leader Naimatullah Khan passed away at the age of 89 years.
Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq, President Arif Alvi, CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail and others have expressed grief over the sad demise of Nazim Naimatullah Khan.
He was elected Karachi City Nazim in 2002 and his services for the metropolis as Nazim will be remembered for a long time.
Naimthullah Khan was born 1st October 1930 in Ajmer, Rajasthan. He was the City Nazim (City Mayor) of the largest city of Pakistan, Karachi from August 2001–June 2005.
He was received his graduation degree from Punjab University in Journalism and also received a Law Degree from Karachi University. He was affiliated with the law field. He was the chairman of the major leading NGO of Pakistan named Alkhidmat Foundation.
As Mayor of the metropolis, in 2005, he was selected to be a contesting candidate in the top-20 Mayors of the World list. Naimatullah Khan was elected City Mayor in 2001. He succeeded in receiving an amount of Rs.2900 Million for development projects of the metropolis.
Many development projects such as 18 flyovers, several major roads, six underpasses, two signal-free roads and a huge water supply scheme for the people of Karachi were built during his era.
During his ear, it was for the first time in the history of Karachi that all the stakeholders in the metropolis were incorporated for the developmental work in Karachi.
