A foreign couple who had traveled to Pakistan by bicycle from ten different countries was reportedly robbed by assailants in Sindh, as revealed on Sunday.
According to law enforcement officials, the couple, Polish citizen Kowalczyk Jakub Tomasz and French national Scantamburlo Marie Elisabeth, were targeted near the Sujawal Bypass. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) indicated that the perpetrators stole the couple’s mobile phones.
The police have filed a first information report (FIR) on behalf of the state and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
However, a representative from the Sindh Archaeology Department informed a private news outlet that the couple, who were exploring historical sites in the region, were actually robbed at Makli Graveyard, a site containing approximately five million tombs and graves of royal family members, Sufi saints, and others.
An assistant from the Archaeology Department confirmed that the couple had spent the previous night at Makli Graveyard, where the robbery occurred. They noted that the couple were guests of the provincial archaeology department.
Following the incident, the couple proceeded to Hyderabad.
Earlier in October, amidst increasing lawlessness in the city, robbers disguised as police officers targeted foreign tourists in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
Police officials verified that four foreign tourists were robbed of $1,080 (Rs. 300,942) during the incident near Khayaban-e-Mujahid.
Frustrated by the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, the tourists departed the country the following day without lodging any complaints with the authorities.
