The Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based inflation for the week ending December 19, 2024, rose by 0.38%, driven by price hikes in tomatoes (56.66%), firewood (1.57%), vegetable ghee (2.5 kg, 0.95%), cooking oil (5 liters, 0.79%), and sugar (0.23%), according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Out of the 51 essential items monitored, prices for 15 items (29.41%) increased, 13 items (25.49%) decreased, and 23 items (45.10%) remained unchanged.
The lowest income group experienced a weekly inflation increase of 0.68%, compared to a 0.30% rise for the highest income group. Annually, inflation ranged from 4.53% to 4.83%, with the lowest income group facing a 4.79% rise and the highest income group a 4.61% increase.
The average price of Sona urea rose to Rs4,558 for a 50 kg bag, marking a 0.36% increase from the previous week and a 1.44% rise compared to the previous year.
